HJSplit - split ur vast files into desired size parts

HJSplit is a popular set of freeware file-splitting programs created by Freebyte in collaboration with various programmers. HJSplit supports many platforms (Windows 3.x/95/98/ME/2000/NT/XP, DOS, Amiga, Java, etc.). All versions are compatible with each other and allow you to exchange files between these different platforms. E.g. a file split on the Amiga can be joined on Windows 2000 and vice versa.

Now what's the use of a program like HJSplit? Think of a file of 20 Mb, and try to send this to a friend. Using email this does not succeed, it is simply too large, and how to put it onto a floppy? HJSplit will enable you to split the large file into smaller chunks, which can be much more easily sent and stored.

What about a backup of very large Gigabyte sized files? HJSplit (Windows and Java version) also can handle these! E.g. HJSplit allows you to split a 10 Gb file into 640 Mb parts, which can then be stored onto CD-Rom's by your CD-writer software.

'I hate my job profile'

If this is the case, you will be less productive and will start deteriorating professionally as the job does not stimulate you any more.

You need to ensure that your dislikes are not emotional in nature. So just because you dislike the people your work with does not mean it is time for a switch.

'I want more responsibility'

Hit a ceiling in terms of your career growth and don't see any future in the current setup? Or, the only way you can get to the next level is if your boss resigns?

Then you need to talk to your boss and explore the option of moving to a new department with increased levels of responsibility. If it works out, make sure that you are not just being lured away by the promise of a fancy sounding designation.

Don't be inhibited by starting afresh on a new assignment within the same organisation. It will work out well for you if it allows you to grow professionally and financially.

'I want to start out on my own'

Tired of working for someone else? Have a great business idea that you feel can turn big? If being your own boss appeals to you then that might be a good reason to leave the job.

But, do your homework. Don't just get excited and rush into something. Is there a market for your services/product? Have you got a solid business plan in place? Have you considered how you are going to raise money for it? Have you discussed it with professionals in the industry?

In your enthusiasm, don't forget that you will be letting go of the security and comfort associated with a steady paycheck. So be ready for a rough ride.

Consider the possibility of failure. Most new businesses fail or shut down in their very first year of operation.

'It's just personal'

Erratic shifts. Lots of out-of-station travel. Too time consuming with no time for the family. Expected to work seven days a week? Any of these could cause you to reconsider your priorities.

While that is alright, don't live under the illusion that everything will fall into place with a new job. You may have to make some important lifestyle decisions to achieve a balance between work-life and personal time.

It's a competitive world and you may have to take a cut in your salary to have more time at home or pursue other interests.

'I got fired'

You could get fired as most organisations adopt a performance-based culture with little tolerance towards non-performers. Don't be angry and waste time bad mouthing people and the organisation. Instead, find out the real reason and move out.

Or maybe, you are about to get fired with the company on a downsizing mode. Then it's better to walk out before you are left with no choice.

There are no foolproof ways to protect against job loss but you can certainly do the following.

• Be calm and proactive, not reactive. Talk to your boss and find out if you can be relocated or be offered a different position. Storming into his office and shouting will not get you anywhere.
• Stay positive. It can open new doors and opportunities that you may have ignored if not challenged.
• If downsizing has started, aggressively take more initiatives to get involved in the organisation. Make yourself valuable so that losing you is not an easy option for the organisation. However, continue your job search simultaneously.

'I hate my boss'

The popular clich�, "People don't leave their organisations; they leave their boss", holds true. You are just a part of a large community who feels the same way.

Here are some typical bad boss traits:

• Does not respect employees.
• Does not trust colleagues.
• Does not take or give any feedback.
• Assigns too many tasks and sets impossible deadlines.
• Is often rude and intimidating.

Before resigning, try these options.

1. Communicate your issues

Be specific. For example, just saying that you have too much work is vague. Instead, break down your tasks into the amount of time you will actually have to spend on each of them that week, and show your boss how many hours it will take. With a clear statement of required time, your boss is more likely to lessen your load to a reasonable level.

2. Make your boss feel good

This one is specially true if you boss has a big ego or needs to have his confidence constantly boosted. Work harder on him. If you have a good idea but think he will refuse, invest a little more time in convincing him.

3. Do a good job

This may sound obvious but when the quality of your work is good, everyone benefits including your boss. So make sure that you exceed your goals or targets, are punctual for all meetings, meet deadlines and are a brand ambassador for your company and project it well.

4. Anticipate your boss's need

If you know that the boss's boss likes graphs and analysis in a presentation, prepare them for your boss. You can say something like, "I know your superior likes graphical illustrations, so I thought these might make your presentation go a little smoother". If your boss is at a loss of words in a meeting, you might want to chip in and give him the support he needs. Be supportive, invest in building a rapport.

There is no such thing as the perfect boss. But if you are willing to acknowledge his/her flaws and strong points, then you are on the right track.

The bottom-line: Know your worth and if all else fails, don't feel dejected. It is time for you to move on.

How to crack telephonic interviews

Most BPO companies have begun saving time and effort by conducting initial rounds of interviews by telephone before calling candidates for a personal round to their offices. BPOs use telephonic rounds to assess candidates for the roles of customer service or outbound sales executives.

Going by the job advertisements, you may typically have to call a number provided exclusively for interviews. Given this, then, your voice and the way you project yourself over the phone can make all the difference.

The flip side

The absence of a visual clue is the biggest disadvantage. While the interviewer can't see your new formal attire, your great smile and positive body language, you, on the other hand, also tell when you've lost the interviewer's attention.

Prepare for an excellent show

Start by visiting the employers' Web site and learn about the firm. Most companies upload the job specifications in the 'Career' or 'Work With Us' sections of their site. This will give you a fair idea about the key skills required for a certain role.

Make notes

Keep some notes ready about the job description, your key strengths and accomplishments. It is a good idea to keep your resume in front of you as well. Remember, they can't see if you have these documents for review.

Mock calls

Call a friend from your landline and ask him or her to listen to your voice. Maybe it is shrill; maybe you speak too softly or too fast to be understood. If possible, call someone you know who already works for a BPO and request him or her to critique your voice.

When you make that call

First, get to the point, and fast. The employers are already expecting calls from candidates, so don't waste time giving them a reference of where you saw their advertisement or asking them if there are any openings. Greet them, state your name and get to the point. For instance: 'Good morning. My name is Rashmi Chopra and I am calling from (location). I am a commerce graduate and would like to interview for the position of tele-sales executive.'

Keep notepad and pen ready

Write down their questions so you can stay on track while answering. Too often, people forget the original question and beat around the bush. Stay on target.

Sound energetic

Your voice is your only sales tool. Do not allow yourself to sound tired or uninterested over the phone. Sound energetic and excited, even if you are asked the same question again. Keep a glass of water ready.

Keep distractions away

Log off your computer (if you can't get away from instant messengers and other services that make a noise). Switch off your cell phone and stereo system, and ensure there no cell phones nearby that may cause disturbance. They sabotage your concentration when you need it most.

Call from a landline

Cell phones and cordless devices rarely allow your voice to sound as clear as it does on a standard landline, so avoid using them for interviews.

Be courteous

Try not to speak over the interviewer or cut him off. If you do, say, "I apologise for interrupting, please complete your question" and let the interviewer continue.

When you are through

Thank the interviewer for his or her time and state that you look forward to hearing from the firm. If they call you for a personal round, ask about the documents you should carry with you. Do not disconnect the call until the interviewer has hung up.

Prepare for that telephonic interview, and you are halfway there.

Lock ur drives and folders using registry tweaks

There are plenty of software which locks drives and folder to protect your confidential data. Why waste money on such tools when you can do it with a simple registry tweak? Here’s how:

Caution: Before you attempt these tweaks, please make sure that you have a backup of your registry, just incase something goes wrong in the middle.

Locking Folders:

• Consider you want to lock a folder named XXXX in your E:\, whose path is E:\XXXX.
• Now open the Notepad and type the following

ren xxxx xxxx.{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D}

• Where xxxx is your folder name. Save the text file as loc.bat in the same drive.
• Open another new notepad text file and type the following

ren xxxx.{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D} xxxx

• Save the text file as key.bat in the same drive.

Steps to lock the folder:

• To lock the xxxx folder, simply click the loc.bat and it will transform into control panel icon which is inaccessible.
• To unlock the folder click the key.bat file. Thus the folder will be unlocked and the contents are accessible.

Locking Drives:

We don’t usually prefer to lock our drives, but sometimes it becomes nesscary. Say for instance you might have stored your office documents in D:\ and you don’t want your kids to access it, in such case this technique can be useful for you. Please don’t try this tweak with your root drive (usually C:\ is the root drive) since root drives are not intended to be locked because they are mandatory for the system and application programs.

• Start & Run and type Regedit to open Registry editor
• Browse HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Policies\Explorer
• Create a new DWORD value NoViewOnDrive and set its value as

2^ (Alpha Number of Drive Letter-1) where Alpha number are simple counting of alphabets from A to Z as 1 - 26

For example: to lock C:\, Alpha number of C is 3 so 2^ (3-1) = 4 (decimal value)

• To lock more drives, calculate the value of each drive and then set sum of those numbers as value
• To unlock your drive just delete the key from the registry.

I've just found the solution to this .
With your 128 mb card installed you can move the applications and games to the phone's memory by highlighting them one at a time and selecting this action from the available options (left action button). Then put you new card in and there you are.
